I live in Australia! Behind the scenes here in Australia planning and preparation for the world arriving at our door step have been at fever pitch for a long time. Prior to the event WYD 08 it was on the minds of everyone you met in Catholic circles – everyone! My journey towards WYD 08 began in Geraldton with the Journey of the Cross and Icon arriving in the city in which I live.

The Catholic Church has been known for its solemn Eucharistic celebrations, doctrinal teachings, strict canon laws and reserved views against pluralism and relativism in our society. But surprisingly to the cynical, the Church has proven to host the ‘coolest’ slumber party in the history of humankind. It was a night in which lasting friendships were made. The atmosphere was electric, the colour brilliant and the crowd’s energy infectious.

For me WYD Sydney 2008 was a wonderfully life-changing and life giving experience. I believe it was a wake-up call to open my heart to the Holy Spirit for the ongoing mission of God’s kingdom. It was a generous celebration of life, both in a physical and spiritual sense.
