Responsible for: Senior Archivist, Archive Assistant
Location: Nazareth House, 169-175 Hammersmith Road, Hammersmith, W6 8DB
Hours: 28 hours per week (some flexibility is possible)

Duties

Archive
• Manage the archive of the Congregation of the Sisters of Nazareth
• Oversee the forthcoming move of the archive into a new purpose-built archive
• Propose policy on the accessioning, management and retention of archive material
• Oversee the Nazareth Collection, a private museum dedicated to our foundress Victoire Larmenier
• Develop our approach to digitising the archive
• Manage the archive database, Calm
• Line manage the two Archive staff
• Submit an annual Report to the Superior General and her Council
• Advise the regions on the establishment and management of their archives
• Respond to enquiries from the general public and other external sources

Legal
• Research and prepare responses to all enquiries relating to the current Public Inquiries into historic child abuse and other legal work
• Liaise with the Inquiry staff, our legal representatives and police regarding the Public Inquiries and our defence
• Advise on other legal matters facing the Congregation

Other
• Any other duties as required by the Sisters or Chief Executive

Person Profile
• Archive and legal experience in a similar environment
• Archive qualification recognised by the Archives and Records Association, paralegal or equivalent
• Empathy with the spirit and work of the Sisters of Nazareth
• Good with a wide range of people: Sisters, professionals and the general public
• Able to undertake research, interpret archive and legal materials and accurately précis information with patience and care
• Able to present information clearly and to communicate with others in writing and verbally
• Logical and organised approach
• Forward thinking to plan current and future needs of the archive materials
• Comfortable with technology including archive databases and Microsoft software
• Able to work to deadlines and to manage time effectively
• Strong commitment to confidentiality and best practice in personal data protection
• Able to lead a small, committed team, to work as part of a team and independently when necessary
